Mark has been practicising Tui Na professionally since 2004 and also teaches Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong.
Tui Na (pronounced `twee nah’) means “push and grasp”. It is part of Traditional Chinese Machine (TCM) together with acupuncture, herbal medicine and Qi Gong.
Tui Na works on energy channels (meridians) and acu-points as in acupuncture, but uses the body instead of needles, to generate and balance the flow of energy (chi).
It is a very comprehensive therapy which also works deep into the muscles helping to alleviate muscle/joint problems.
Tui Na uses a wide variety of techniques, including stretches, focusing on the acupoints/meridians, relieving tension/pain and allowing deep relaxation. The treatment works on a very deep level allowing the body to heal as it relaxes and the energy re-balances.
Tui Na provides complete stimulation of the body’s entire musculo-skeletal system, as well as all the internal organs. In China it is used in hospitals as a medical massage to treat most common ailments.
In the first session a detailed 15-30 minute consultation takes place, where you case history is taken
All treatments are done with the patient fully clothed, lying on a couch or sometimes sitting on chair.
After the treatment self-stretching and possibly advice on posture or breathing techniques are given, to aid recovery and to help stop conditions re-occurring.
Clients typically feel much looser, lighter and relaxed after a treatment. NB. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.
What Conditions does Tui Na treat ?
The number of sessions needed does depend on the condition/s. As a guide 3-4 sessions would be beneficial, although often benefit is noticed after the 1st session.
