Day to day health problems such as irritable bowel, stress and fatigue, as well as many degenerative diseases, can be a direct result of poor nutrient balance. Within nutritional therapy you will receive a detailed assessment of your nutrient status, a healthy strategy and personal dietary plan together with any recommendations for useful vitamin and mineral supplements. Biochemical tests may also be suggested to detect underlying causes of ill health.

Nutrition could be the real key to improving your health now and for the future

  • Feeling run down ?
  • Tired all the time ?
  • Too many colds, flus , viruses ?
  • Beginning to put on weight ?
  • Irritable bowel ?
  • Sleeping badly ?

How can nutrition help ?

Every one of the body's cells and tissues depends upon getting the right raw materials -in the form of vitamins, minerals, protein and fatty acids - to be able to work properly. A growing body of evidence suggests that many chronic and degenerative diseases, as well as day-to-day health problems such as constant tiredness, can be traced back directly to poor nutrient intake. But it's not always easy to eat a nutritious diet - because of the way our food is produced, because we're all so busy, and because the modern world is full of 'anti-nutrients' such as chemical pollutants, which interfere with our ability to absorb nutrients.

As a result, government studies show that nutrient deficiency is now common, even among those who think they eat a so-called 'balanced' diet. This can lead to minor health problems, or serious illness and disease. For example, zinc deficiency is widespread. Yet zinc is needed to support over 100 vital body processes, including immunity, fertility, protein digestion, energy production, growth and sleep. It's really no wonder people are beginning to suffer health problems!

What does a Nutrition Consultant do ?

The body is naturally designed to repair itself. To do so it needs a diet rich in essential nutrients, properly digested and absorbed.

A nutrition consultant therefore looks not only at the quality of your food, but also at other factors which may be interfering with your ability to use nutrients. These may include poor digestion, food intolerance's or allergies, a sluggish metabolism, toxicity, mineral imbalances, unbalanced gut bacteria or lifestyle factors.

The aim is to identify and tackle the underlying causes of your health problems rather than simply give short-term relief. Often, there are patterns in a person's symptoms which clearly point to certain nutrient deficiencies. Once remedied, there can be significant improvements in energy and other symptoms.

A nutrition consultant works with you as an individual to explore what may have triggered your health problems and identify any intolerance's or deficiencies. This helps you to cut through the mass of conflicting information about healthy food and find out what's right for you, enabling you to take positive charge of your own health.

"Let food be your medicine and your medicine be your food ".

How does a consultation work?

Before your first visit, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire giving details of your current diet and symptoms, your health history and your lifestyle. This enables an initial assessment of possible underlying causes.

After discussion, the consultant will outline what is likely to have caused or be contributing to your health problems, and how nutritional treatment may help. A strategy for improving your health will be suggested, including detailed dietary guidelines and lifestyle recommendations, all in writing. The pace of the dietary changes will be decided by you!

Some supplements may be recommended to provide an initial boost to your metabolism and the process of repair. One or more diagnostic laboratory tests are sometimes suggested, for example to confirm your level of essential minerals, your hormone balance or your ability to detoxify.

The first consultation will take 1 hr 30 minutes . A second consultation of 45 minutes usually follows 3 or 4 weeks later, with further consultations as necessary. Ongoing personal support by telephone and e-mail is also provided.
